Imagine yourself sitting at a chess board, the pieces arranged in their starting positions. Notice the feel of the pieces in your hand as you reach out to make your first move.
As you continue to play, notice any feelings of anxiety that may arise. Acknowledge them.
Remind yourself that it is normal to feel anxious in challenging situations.
Purpose of this meditation is to become aware of your feelings and controlling them.
Take another deep breath in, and exhale out.
Imagine yourself moving through the game with ease, your mind focused and calm.
It's ok to let your thoughts wander away for a while. Important is to bring them back to now.
Take another deep breath in, and exhale out.
As you continue to play, imagine yourself becoming more and more confident with each move.
Each decision you make is the result of careful consideration and strategy.
As the game comes to an end, take a moment to reflect on the experience.
Notice how your mind felt during the game.
Did you feel calm and focused?
Did you feel in control of your thoughts and emotions?
Take one last deep breath in, and exhale out.
As you open your eyes, bring that feeling of calm and focus with you into your day.
