Hi Peter, thanks for your question and comment. Let us clarify few things before we answer. The transposition database was inspired by a book - Soltis: Transpo Trics in Chess. In this book there were quite good examples of some Openings and you can see how with exchange of moves order you can disorient your opponent.
Only one Database program store the game as positions. It is a Bookup. (www.bookup.com) Its new version name is Chess Opening Wizard. It’s already second year and still in development /beta/. I don’t know when Mike Leahy finalizes his work, but currently it works well. Other type of DB program are not very useful for this type of operation e.g. Chessbase or Chess Assistant. I collected about 30 thousand quality Sicilian Defense games and in every game you must in every move determine which openings is it and type the ECO code. From its 1st move to approx. 15th move when the Sicilian defense is reached and sometimes moves after that. For example game starts 1.b3 or 1.Nf3 and after 8-10 moves reaches Sicilian defense. Tricky change of move order can be done by White or Black in combination. It is a plenty work in every game in every move to identify type ECO of Opening. You must simultaneously work at least on two powerful computers. Maybe it was mistake for us starting to analyze one of the biggest openings which require huge work with Sicilian Defense, but I think everybody needs it. This type of database does not exist anywhere yet (at least what we think off) and nobody can really help us currently. Of course ideally work completed will have plenty of comments, but in this stage the job is nearly finished around 90% of completion. Therefore please accept my apology for our later delivery, but I am assuming the end of this work can be reached in very near future. One GM player said to me:" this DB program is not well known and this type of work is Sisyphus work". Yes it is true, but somebody must start solving this problem, because good players know how strong the Transposition weapon can be and it is worthwhile to analyze and document it for the value add of all the players. Other problem is Transposition inside in Sicilian Defense. How can you change English Attack from Najdorf Variation to Scheveningen variation and similar issues. This problem is not only exchange of move order, but exchange of entire Variation. It is about of feeling of position and how you often it is played using some variation Problem is big, but somebody must start solving it. Therefore to wrap up, we will insert a new comment, coming out very soon until then, we appreciate your patience in waiting.
One question, since you are asking about this specific and unique product, have you had personal experience in some kind of database collected games in this transposition format which we could exchange or share information with, we would be interested if somebody out there also experiments with this work.

Best regards,
Alexander Horvath, SIM ICCF

Hello Alexander,

thank you for the really detailed answer. I appreciate that! .
My first lead to ask were the Tab OM Database where this database is listed. But, nevertheless i had tried - as an avarage player - to come up with a bit of transposition for my prefered openings, and - as you may expect - failed early in this process ..
Had read a book - can't remember the title - where on 4 or 6 pages the basic idea where explained.. and so it was a positiv surprise when i found here the announcement of a Transposition database.
I wish us that you may come up with something this year. Good luck for this !
Thanks for this great site !
Greetings
Peter

Hi Peter,
You are right understanding that, nobody can solve it to now. The book of Solvis was only an introduction to the problem. We are working on some solutions but it takes time.
