Database of the decade 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Maybe a new database consisting with official games played from 2000 till now could prove handy...less games and easier to use

Hi Arisp,
Creation of this OM DB is not a problem.
Best regards,

I find this request puzzling!
Anyone who has the OM database and ChessBase could produce their own "database of the decade" in a few minutes with an absolute minimum of effort.
Best wishes
Gordon

Hi all,
yes I agree with Gordon anyone can do it.. but we must be more emphatic also to users not so advanced like we are or you. We still need to remember the usage of ChessBase is complex with many menus and sub-menus, filters, index etc... one may get lost easily. We can create such databases, and we do for the moment - OM BIG (all), OM 2300 which is around 1 mil games and with ELO higher than 2300 (already powerful) or the strongest one with players above 2500 (OM 2500) around 180K games. If we see more and more requests coming about different bases, we can of course produce them
Best regards to all

Ofc it s easy to make and I do happen to know exactly how to do it. But to all the geniuses out there how do u plan to maintain and keep it updated?

Or ur plan is to do the same process every time OM posts a new database?

Yes, I do extract specific information from the main database and store it in a new database and yes, I do update it each month when a new OM database is published.
Best wishes

Ok and I wish it done for me. If I m paying for a database I wish it to be compact and it suits my needs and not my needs get accustomed to the database... Raise the price if u must but make it as much compact as possible...

Besides If I lose 3hours downloading 30 mins installing 2 hours modifying it s 5.5 hours and that s a lot of time to spend every month.

That s the way I view things

Arisps, we understand your concern. It's not about price, the pricing is affordable for all users from advanced to beginners and we believe we offer quite many databases for users for the annual membership with 12 updates (even introduced now PGN for 2500 and 2300 Databases), some Rybka formats, SCID etc.. We of course listen our members and if there is a wish to have also one extra database for last 10 years called ''OM Decade'', so be it. We will raise a small poll to all users just to see the reaction. It may end up it's only very few users who need it or on the other hand many. In our tutorials users can easily step by step create their sub-bases, but we hear you, you don't want to spend extra time as you spend already too much. We will come back to your request soon.
Best regards,
Alexander

PS you might want to exchange your Internet Service Provider if you say it takes more than 3 hours to download, with ADSL connection it shouldn't take more than 30 min.

Your 30 minutes sounds about right - I downloaded OM 1.20 in about 35 minutes.

Re:Database of the decade 4 Months ago Karma: 0
It s just that I have already a sub database with comments and analysis of the most historical games of the last century I also have some good books (ie Alekhine s 39-45, Nimzo praxis, Tal s and Fisher s selfbiography) which I have fully converted to ebooks so I don t see why I should even bother with those games again and again and again. Let s agree that it is absolutely pointless. I feel like I m "losing a tempo" every month and chessplayers don t like to lose tempi...

I guess that it may also depend on how busy your ISP is at the time you are dowmloading. I took about 35 minutes for the 1.20 download, but about 45 minutes for the 1.21 download.
Best wishes
